What Your Favourite Colour Says About You

By Neeti Kaushik • 16/06/2026 • No Comments

Let me ask you something. Right now, before you read another word, think about the colour you are wearing today. Did you choose it on purpose? Or did you just reach for it without really thinking?

I have asked this question to thousands of people over the years, and almost every time, the answer is the same: “I just felt like wearing it.” And you know what? That feeling is not random. It never is.

Colours carry energy. They speak a language that our soul understands even when our mind does not. And when I started truly paying attention to the colours I was drawn to – the ones I kept buying, the ones I avoided — I began to understand myself in a completely new way.

On my YouTube channel, I have shared a video about this, which got such a beautiful response from all of you. So many of you wrote in asking about yellow, black, white, and pink specifically. Today, I want to share everything I know about these four powerful colours – the science behind them, the spiritual wisdom, and most importantly, my personal experience with each one.

Yellow: The Colour of the Sun Inside You

The moment I say yellow, what flashes through your mind?

For me, it is always warmth. Sunshine. A field of marigolds at a wedding. The yellow of turmeric being applied on a bride’s hands during the haldi ceremony. Yellow has been at the heart of our celebrations for thousands of years, and there is a reason for that.

In Vedic tradition, yellow is ruled by Jupiter, the planet of wisdom, abundance, and growth. In Rajasthan, women wear yellow dupattas to every important ceremony. Bananas are offered in prayer. Kadhi and chana dal are cooked on Thursdays. These are not coincidences or mere customs. Our ancestors were encoding wisdom into everyday life.

What Yellow Does for You

Here is something I have noticed personally, and science actually supports this too: yellow stimulates the brain. It activates the left side of the brain, the side responsible for logic, analysis, and creativity. When you wear yellow or surround yourself with yellow, you are literally giving your mind permission to light up.

I remember days when I sat down to write a new course or prepare for a workshop, and I would feel stuck. The ideas just would not come. Then I started consciously wearing yellow on those mornings. Something shifts. It sounds simple, almost too simple. But it works.

  • Yellow improves clarity and helps you think more creatively
  • It makes your skin look brighter and more radiant, regardless of your complexion
  • It lifts your mood and fills you with a sense of optimism and possibility
  • It connects you to Jupiter’s energy, attracting abundance and wisdom
Fun fact: Research in colour psychology shows that yellow increases serotonin production in the brain – the very chemical responsible for happiness and mental sharpness. Our ancestors were colour therapists long before modern science caught up!

When Yellow Becomes Too Much

Now here is where I always get the next question: “Ma’am, I love yellow! Can I wear it every day?” And I gently say, with love – no. Balance is everything in nature, and the same applies to colour energy.

When you wear too much yellow, or if you completely avoid it, you start experiencing a very specific kind of imbalance. I have seen this pattern in myself and in the people I counsel.

  • You begin to feel emotionally unstable, like you cannot settle into anything for too long
  • Small things start to scare you, and you feel a low-level anxiety without knowing why
  • Procrastination becomes your default mode – everything feels like it can wait until tomorrow

The key is this: wear yellow intentionally. On days when you need creativity or a fresh perspective, let yellow do its magic. Three times a week is enough. You do not need to live in it.

Black: Powerful, Protective, but Handle With Care

I will be honest with you. Black has a complicated relationship with me. And I think it has a complicated relationship with most of us.

Almost every person I know owns something black. Black feels safe. Black feels powerful. & Black feels like it hides us on days when we do not want too much attention. And for those of us who wear it professionally – like pilots in their sharp black trousers and white shirts – it feels like authority.

All of that is true. But there is a side of black that most people do not talk about, and I feel it is important to say it honestly.

The Real Power of Black

Black absorbs all light. In physics, this is a fact. A black surface takes in every wavelength of energy around it, reflecting nothing back. And what is true for light is also true for the energetic world we live in.

This is why black has historically been used for protection. When someone wears a black thread or a black amulet, the intention is to absorb and neutralize negative energy before it reaches you. This is also why in many cultures, we are told to cover our dark hair before stepping outside in strong sunlight. Black hair, like a black surface, attracts heat. Your brain can get overheated – quite literally and that affects your thinking.

In our tradition, covering the head while going out is a protective gesture. The black of our hair draws in solar energy. By covering it, our ancestors were protecting the mind from overstimulation. Science and spirituality, hand in hand.

Where Black Can Work Against You

Because black absorbs everything, when you wear too much of it, your body and mind start absorbing everything around you – the good, the bad, the chaotic, the negative. You become a sponge for other people’s emotions and energies.

I have noticed this pattern in people who come to me for healing. They almost always wear a lot of black. And when I ask them how they have been feeling, the answers are so similar: irritable, drained, attracting conflict, saying things they later regret.

  • Wearing too much black can make your mood shift to the negative very quickly
  • You may start attracting difficult people or situations without understanding why
  • Over time, it can make you more reactive and less grounded in your true self

The beautiful solution? Pair black with white, just like the pilot’s uniform. The white reflects and the black absorbs, and together they create perfect balance. That is the wisdom hidden in that classic look.

White: Peace That Needs a Partner

If black is a conversation at midnight, white is a deep breath in the morning. White is the colour I associate most with my grandparents. Their bedsheets were always white. Their clothing was always simple, always pale. And as a child, I did not understand it. Why this plainness? Why this quiet?

Now I understand completely. They were protecting their peace.

Why White Works Like No Other Colour

White reflects all energy. Every wavelength of light that falls on a white surface bounces back. Which means white does not hold on to anything. It is the colour of release, of clarity, of creating space.

This is why meditation spaces are often white or pale. Why hospitals and temples are kept white. Why we associate white with a fresh start. Wearing white invites the mind to settle. It says to the world around you, “Nothing is sticking to me today.”

  • White promotes mental clarity and peaceful, intentional thinking
  • It makes you look luminous and radiant, regardless of skin tone
  • It creates an energetic boundary that keeps heavy or negative influences away
  • It is deeply calming for the nervous system, reducing anxiety over time

The Downside of Too Much White

Here is what I discovered from my own experience. I love white. It is honestly one of my favourite colours. But when I wear all white for too many days in a row, something strange happens to me. I start feeling a little detached. A little distant. Like I am watching life from behind glass instead of fully living it.

Think of it this way – have you ever seen a place covered entirely in snow? Beautiful at first. But after a while, there is a kind of loneliness to it. An emptiness. Cold places often produce what people call cold energy. Not cruel, just… distant. A little removed from warmth.

Too much white in your wardrobe can create emotional aloofness – not intentionally, but gradually. You may find yourself pulling back from people, getting lost in your own thoughts, or feeling a kind of numbness. If this sounds familiar, add a pop of color!

My personal solution: I never wear full white alone. I always pair it with something warm – a golden dupatta, a pop of red, a touch of saffron. That combination keeps the peace of white without losing the warmth of life.

Pink: Sweet, Soft, and More Powerful Than You Think

I have to confess something. There was a time in my life when pink was essentially my uniform. I am not exaggerating. Every third or fourth saree I owned was pink. Baby pink, hot pink, magenta, rose – I was a walking pink palette. And if you watched my channel in its early days, you probably saw me in pink three or four times a week.

I was not doing it consciously back then. But looking back, I understand exactly what was happening. I was drawn to the energy pink carries.

What Pink Truly Represents

Pink is the colour of the heart. Not just romantic love, but all love – self-love, friendship, compassion, care. It is soft and passionate at the same time. It carries a quiet power that people often underestimate.

In colour psychology, pink has been shown to reduce feelings of aggression and promote feelings of calm and affection. Some sports teams have even painted their visiting locker rooms pink, knowing it makes opponents feel less aggressive before a game. That is how real this energy is.

Pink is associated with Venus, the planet of love, beauty, and relationships. When you wear pink, you are inviting that Venusian energy in – softness, sweetness, beauty, and the ability to connect deeply with others.

  • Pink opens the heart and makes you more emotionally available to others
  • It connects you to feelings of romance, friendship, and gentle joy
  • It softens your energy in situations that need kindness rather than force
  • It supports the heart chakra, helping you give and receive love more freely

A Personal Story About Pink and My Mother

I want to share something that moved me deeply, because I think many of you will relate to this.

After my father passed away, my mother stopped wearing pink and red completely. This is a tradition in many Indian families — when the spouse is gone, these colours are set aside. I understood the sentiment. But as a healer, I watched what was happening to her energy field over time.

Without red and pink, connecting her to her root chakra and heart chakra became incredibly difficult. Those colours hold specific frequencies. Without them, there was a kind of closing off, a withdrawal from the warmth of life.

I began gifting her sarees and dupattas that had just a little pink tucked in – a border, a tiny print, a soft blush. Not forcing it. Just gently introducing it. And I watched her soften, open up, laugh a little more easily. Colour is that powerful.

When Pink Becomes Imbalanced

Too much pink, or the complete avoidance of it, creates its own kind of imbalance.

  • You become overly emotional, crying easily, feeling hurt by small things that you would normally let go
  • You may find yourself taking life less seriously, putting off important tasks and responsibilities
  • Self-doubt creeps in more easily, and you start wondering if you are good enough
  • On the other extreme, avoiding pink completely can make you emotionally guarded, even unknowingly

The answer, as always, is balance. Wear pink when you want to nurture your relationships, when you need a soft day, when you are spending time with people you love. Let it be a conscious, loving choice.

A Closing Thought from My Heart

You know what I believe? Every morning when you open your wardrobe, you have an opportunity. An opportunity to set an intention. To choose the energy you want to step into the world with. To honour the wisdom that has been woven into our culture for centuries.

colours are not just fabric and dye. They are frequencies. They are conversations between your soul and the universe. And the more consciously you engage with them, the more you will notice life responding.

Start small. Tomorrow morning, before you grab whatever is on top of the pile, pause. Ask yourself: What energy do I need today? What colour speaks to that? And then wear it with intention.

I promise you – it will change something. Maybe something small at first. But small changes, done with love and consistency, are how our whole life transforms.

Thank you for being here with me. Thank you for trusting this journey. And as always, I am sending you so much love and light.
