Let me be honest with you right from the start.
In my 30 years of working with astrology and guiding people through life’s most challenging phases, I have seen the same patterns come up again and again. And one of the most powerful, most misunderstood, most feared periods in all of Vedic astrology is Sade Sati – and for younger souls, Saturn Return.
I have sat across from people who were completely falling apart during this period. I have also seen people walk through it and come out the other side completely transformed – stronger, clearer, and more purposeful than they had ever been.
The difference was not luck. It was not which planet was favourable that week. The difference was always the same five mistakes – some people made them, and some people did not.
Today, I want to make sure you are in the second group.
| But first – let me destroy the biggest myth about Saturn. Saturn is not your enemy. Saturn is your strictest teacher. And the teacher who pushes you hardest is the one who believes in your potential the most. |
First, Let Us Make Sure We Are on the Same Page
Sade Sati is a 7.5-year period in your life that happens when Saturn transits through the 12th, 1st, and 2nd house from your Moon sign. It comes roughly three times in a lifetime. Saturn Return is what happens when Saturn returns to the exact position it was in when you were born – usually around age 29-30, and again at 58-60.
Both of these periods are intense. Both of them are real. And both of them are purposeful.
They are not here to break you. They are here to restructure you.
But if you make these five mistakes I am about to share? You will make this period ten times harder than it needs to be.
The 5 Mistakes at a Glance
| Mistake | Why It Blocks You | The Fix |
| Fighting the process | Resistance prolongs the lesson | Ask ‘What is this teaching me?’ |
| Panic decisions | Undoing good work in fear | The 24-Hour Rule before any big move |
| Isolating completely | Deepens heaviness, removes support | Choose 2-3 grounding people |
| Neglecting the body | Saturn lessons hit physically | Sleep, walk, warm meals daily |
| Spiritual bypassing | Avoidance dressed as devotion | Pair prayer with real-world action |
Now let us go deep into each one – because understanding the WHY behind each mistake is what will actually change your behaviour.
1. Fighting the Process
The Pattern I See Most Often
Do you know what I hear more than anything else when someone is in a Saturn transit?
‘Why is this happening to me? I do not deserve this. This should not be my life right now.’
I understand that feeling. I really do. When life is pushing you hard and nothing feels stable, it is so human to resist, to push back, to demand that things be different.
But here is what I have learned – and what I want you to truly hear:
| Resistance does not stop the lesson. It only makes it louder. |
Fighting Saturn is like standing in front of a wave and refusing to move. The wave does not care. It is going to move you either way. The only question is whether you get dragged underwater – or whether you learn to swim.
Resistance creates suffering. Acceptance creates growth. And the longer you fight, the longer the lesson stays.
What to Do Instead
Shift your question. Instead of asking ‘Why is this happening to me?’ start asking ‘What is this trying to teach me?’
Every Saturday – which is Saturn’s own day – I recommend a simple Surrender Ritual. Write down every resistance you are holding – every ‘this should not be happening.’ Read it out loud. Then burn the paper safely. As it burns, say: ‘I release what I cannot control. I trust the process.’
It sounds simple. But I have seen this ritual shift people’s entire experience of their transit.
2. Making Major Decisions in Panic Mode
When Pressure Pushes You to Escape
Saturn will put pressure on your life. That is its job. And when it does, our first instinct is to escape.
People quit jobs overnight. They end long relationships impulsively. They make huge financial moves out of fear. I have seen people do in one panicked week what took years to build – and then spend years more trying to undo the damage.
| Saturn does not create pressure to destroy you. Saturn creates pressure to test your judgment under stress. And panic is not judgment. |
Here is what many people do not realise: Saturn is watching HOW you handle difficulty – not just what you decide. The panic decision made in the middle of a Saturn transit often has to be reversed later. Which means you end up doing the hard work twice.
The 24-Hour Rule
I want you to adopt what I call the 24-Hour Rule. No major decision – about your job, your relationship, your money, your home – without sleeping on it for at least 24 hours. If it still feels right after a calm night’s rest, then consider it.
Ask yourself before every big decision: ‘Am I choosing this from clarity? Or from fear?’
Saturn deeply respects experience and wisdom. Talk to a mentor. Seek out an elder, someone who has navigated something similar. Use others’ experience as your resource.

3. Isolating Yourself Completely
When Silence Feels Like Strength
‘Nobody understands what I am going through. I will just deal with this alone.’
I hear this so often. You shut down. You pull away. & You stop answering calls. & You convince yourself that silence is strength – that suffering quietly is somehow noble.
I want to gently challenge that belief.
| Isolation is not a Saturn lesson. Discernment is. Saturn wants you to learn who truly belongs in your life – not to remove everyone from it. |
There is a very important difference between protecting your energy and cutting off all support. When you isolate completely during a Saturn transit, you remove the very people who could help you carry the weight. And the heaviness only deepens.
Selective Support – The Saturn Way
Choose two or three people who genuinely ground you. Not people who panic with you. Not people who add drama. People who are older, steadier, wiser – perhaps people who have been through their own Saturn transit and come out the other side.
Build boundaries, yes. Limit time with those who drain you. But do not cut off wise counsel.
| Saturn Remedy Spend even 30 minutes on Saturdays in service to elders – helping them, honouring them, listening to them. Saturn governs time and elders. This act directly aligns you with Saturn’s energy. |
4. Neglecting Your Physical Health
‘I Will Take Care of My Body Once This Is Over’
I have heard this sentence so many times. And every single time, it makes the transit harder.
You stop sleeping properly. & You eat badly or skip meals entirely. & You abandon movement. & You run entirely on stress and adrenaline.
Here is something very few people know about Saturn from a Vedic astrology perspective:
| Saturn rules the bones, the teeth, the skin, the joints. When your body is neglected during a Saturn transit, the planet’s lessons are felt physically – not just emotionally. |
Your physical body is the foundation of your mental resilience. You cannot process emotional and spiritual lessons when you are running on an empty, depleted body. Physical neglect amplifies every problem Saturn surfaces.
Three Non-Negotiables During Saturn
I call these non-negotiables because during this period, they are not optional. They are survival essentials.
- 8 hours of sleep. Every night. This is not a luxury during Saturn – it is medicine.
- A daily walk – even just 20 minutes. Movement processes stored emotion. The body holds what the mind cannot release.
- Proper, warm, grounding meals. No skipping. No eating on the run.
| Saturn-Friendly Foods to Include Black sesame seeds (Saturn’s own grain), iron-rich foods like lentils and dark leafy greens, and warm cooked meals. Avoid cold and raw foods during this period – your body needs warmth and grounding right now. |
And on Saturdays, try a warm sesame oil massage – even just your feet and hands. This is a classical Saturn remedy, and it works on both the physical and the energetic level.
5. Spiritual Bypassing
The Mistake Hidden Inside Devotion
This is the one I want you to sit with. Because this is the mistake that good, sincere, spiritually devoted people make – and they do not even realise it.
It looks like this: ‘I meditate every day. I pray every morning. I am doing everything right spiritually.’ And yet – the bills are unpaid. The conflict at work is unaddressed. The relationship issue keeps coming back.
This is what I call Spiritual Bypassing – using spiritual practice to avoid taking real-world action.
| Saturn is the most practical planet in all of Jyotish and Vedic astrology. Saturn does not reward beautiful intentions. Saturn rewards consistent, disciplined action in the real world. |
If you are meditating for an hour but avoiding a difficult conversation at work – Saturn will keep bringing that conflict back. If you are praying for abundance but not doing the practical financial work – Saturn will keep presenting the same money lesson.
Spirituality during Saturn must be grounded. It must be paired with real-world responsibility.
The AND Approach
The fix is not to meditate less or to stop praying. The fix is to stop choosing between spiritual practice AND real-world action. Saturn wants both.
- Meditate – AND have the conversation you have been avoiding.
- Pray – AND create the financial plan you have been postponing.
- Journal – AND follow through on the commitment you made this week.
Every morning, ask yourself: ‘What is ONE practical thing I will do today to work WITH my Saturn lesson – not around it?’
Spirituality without grounding is escape, not evolution. Saturn knows the difference.
What Saturn Actually Rewards: Your Survival Guide
Now that you know what not to do, let me tell you what Saturn genuinely respects and rewards. I have watched this work for hundreds of people who came to me in the middle of their transits and came out the other side stronger.
1. Document Your Growth
Keep a weekly Saturn Journal – even just five minutes every Sunday. Write: What did I face this week? What did I learn? Where did I show up despite the difficulty? Saturn records everything. So should you.
2. Build Slowly and Steadily
One daily discipline maintained for 40 days will do more for you than any grand resolution. Small, consistent improvements are the language Saturn speaks. Dramatic gestures mean nothing to it. Showing up every day means everything.
3. Honour Every Commitment You Make
Do what you say you will do – to others and to yourself. Reliability becomes your greatest asset during this period. Saturn watches your integrity far more than your effort.
4. Invest in Real Skills
This is actually a powerful time to learn something practical – a course, a certification, a new discipline. Saturn loves expertise built over time. Use this period to build yours.
5. Think in Five Years
Every time you face a decision, ask: will this serve me in five years? Saturn thinks in decades, not days. The more you can cultivate that long-term perspective, the more aligned you become with Saturn’s energy.
A Personal Note From Me to You
If you are in Sade Sati or Saturn Return right now, I want you to know something. I have been there. And I have walked alongside hundreds of others who have been there too.
This period is hard. I will not tell you otherwise. But hard is not the same as hopeless. Difficult is not the same as destructive. And pressure is not the same as punishment.
Saturn is not your enemy. Saturn is the teacher who shows up precisely when you are ready to grow – even when you do not feel ready.
So, let me ask you this: which of these five mistakes have you been making? Be honest with yourself. Saturn sees it anyway.
The moment you stop fighting, stop panicking, stop isolating, start taking care of your body, and pair your prayers with real action – that is the moment Saturn stops feeling like a storm and starts feeling like a turning point.
| You are not being broken. You are being built. And what Saturn is building in you is something that will last a lifetime. |
