Full Moon 31st May: A Powerful Ritual to Release What’s Holding You Back

By Neeti Kaushik • 25/05/2026 • No Comments

The Full Moon on 31st May is here.

And this one is special. Not just because of the energy it carries, but because of what this entire month of May has been telling us.

May began with a Full Moon on 1st May. And now, it is ending with another Full Moon on 31st May. Two Full Moons in a single month. One at the very start, one at the very end.

When this happens, it is not a coincidence. It is the universe underlining something for us. This entire month has been a powerful invitation to release. To clear. To finally let go of what we have been carrying silently for too long.

And if you have been feeling emotionally heavy lately, if old patterns keep surfacing, if something inside you keeps saying “it is time” – this is why. You have been living inside one of the most potent release cycles of the year.

So today, I am not giving you a complicated ritual.

I am sharing something beautifully simple. Something so symbolic, so personal, and so unexpectedly powerful that it might just take you straight back to your childhood.

Because sometimes, the most healing things are also the most innocent ones.

This Full Moon, we are doing a Release Flight Ritual. And yes, it involves a paper airplane.

What Is the Full Moon in Sagittarius?

On 31st May, we have a Full Moon in Sagittarius. And I know what you might be thinking – “But Dr. Neeti, I am not a Sagittarius. Does this apply to me?”

Yes. Absolutely yes.

Here is something I always explain to my community: when the Moon moves into any zodiac sign, all of us experience that sign’s energy collectively. The Full Moon in Sagittarius is not just for Sagittarius people. It is for every single one of us.

So what energy are we working with?

Sagittarius EnergyWhat It ReleasesWhat It Invites
FreedomLet go of emotional cagesMove without fear
ExpansionGrow beyond current limitsOpen to new possibilities
TruthRelease denial and avoidanceLive honestly
MovementStop staying stuckTake the next step forward
Open SkiesRelease the weight you carryFeel light again

Sagittarius is a Fire sign ruled by Jupiter – the planet of growth, expansion, and abundance. It is bold, freedom-loving, and deeply connected to the sky, to movement, and to truth.

And Full Moon energy, on its own, is always about one thing: release. Completion. Emotional clearing. Letting go of what is no longer yours to carry.

Why So Many of Us Feel Stuck (Even When Life Looks ‘Fine’)

Let me be honest with you.

Most of us are not carrying dramatic trauma. We are carrying the quiet, invisible kind – the kind that doesn’t scream but whispers constantly.

Things like:

  • The criticism someone gave you years ago that you never fully released
  • The dream you quietly gave up because you thought you weren’t enough
  • The relationship that ended and left behind words you never got to say
  • The fear of judgment that stopped you from showing up fully
  • The version of yourself that once felt free – and somehow got lost along the way

Somewhere between childhood and adulthood, many of us stopped feeling free. We stopped dreaming freely. Trusting freely. Living freely.

And this Full Moon is an invitation to remember that freer version of yourself. The one who hadn’t yet learned to be afraid.

This ritual is not just about release.
It is about reconnecting with a lighter, freer version of yourself that you may have forgotten existed.

The Release Flight Ritual – Step by Step

I designed this ritual to be simple. You do not need anything expensive or complicated. Everything you need is probably already in your home.

What You Will Need

  • One diya or candle
  • A matchbox or lighter
  • One plain sheet of paper
  • A pen
  • A balcony, open window, or terrace (optional but beautiful)

Give yourself 20-30 quiet minutes.
Put your phone away. Let this be just for you.

Step 1 – Begin with Fire Cleansing

Sagittarius is a Fire sign. And fire carries deep symbolism – it transforms, it clears, it illuminates what was hidden in the dark.

So, we begin by clearing our energy.

Light your diya or candle. Sit comfortably in front of it. Take one slow, deep breath – in through your nose, and out through your mouth.

Now, gently move your palms over the warmth of the flame. Not too close. Just close enough to feel the heat. Then bring your hands to your head, your heart, your chest.

And say these words:

“I release heaviness, fear, emotional baggage, and limitation.”
“I now allow myself to move forward with freedom, clarity, and trust.”

Sit with the flame for a few quiet seconds. Let the energy settle. The fire is already doing its work.

Step 2 – Write What You Are Carrying

Now pick up your paper and your pen.

Hold the paper in your hands for a moment before you write. Because this paper is about to hold something important.

Write freely. Write honestly. Nobody will read this but you.

You can write about one area of your life, or simply whatever feels heaviest in your heart right now. There is no right or wrong way to do this.

Some things people often carry:

  • Self-doubt that keeps coming back
  • Fear of what people will think or say
  • Emotional pain from the past that still surfaces
  • Guilt or anger that was never fully processed
  • Old limiting beliefs like “I am not enough” or “I don’t deserve more”
  • Toxic attachments or memories that replay on loop
  • Words that were never said – to someone else, or to yourself
  • Pressure you have been quietly carrying for others

If you are not sure where to begin, try one of these sentences:

  • “I keep doubting myself when it comes to…”
  • “I have been unable to let go of…”
  • “I am afraid that…”
  • “I no longer want to carry…”

Write as much or as little as you need. This space is entirely yours.

Step 3 – Cross It Out

Now draw a big, bold cross over everything you have written.

Every word. Every sentence. Cross it all out.

And as you do, I want you to remember something important.

You are not erasing what happened.
You are simply deciding that it will no longer have power over where you are going.
There is a difference between forgetting and releasing. Releasing means: I see this. I acknowledge this. And I choose to move forward anyway.

Step 4 – Fold Your Paper Airplane

Now fold your paper into a paper airplane. Slowly. With intention.

As you fold each crease, imagine yourself folding those fears, that heaviness, those old limitations – right into the paper.

You are not avoiding your emotions. You are transforming them.

(If you have forgotten how to fold a paper airplane, it is completely okay. Look up a quick tutorial. Or better yet – ask a child nearby. They never forgot.)

There is something quietly beautiful about this step. Because many of us have not folded a paper airplane since we were children. And that is exactly the point.

You are not just folding paper. You are returning, for a moment, to a version of yourself that knew how to feel free.

Step 5 – Hold It to Your Heart

Pick up the airplane. Hold it gently near your heart. Close your eyes.

Take one long, deep breath in.

And slowly release it.

Then repeat after me:

“I no longer carry what limits my growth.”
“I release emotional heaviness and old stories.”
“I now allow myself to move forward freely, lightly, and openly.”

Feel it. Even if it feels a little uncomfortable. Even if a tear comes. Let it.

That discomfort is not weakness. That is release happening in real time.

Step 6 – The Release Flight

Now stand near your balcony, open window, or terrace if you can. Look up toward the sky for just a moment.

Remember what Sagittarius teaches us: life is meant to move forward. Not stay trapped in emotional weight.

Take one last breath.

And gently fly your airplane.

As it leaves your hand, say out loud or in your heart:

“I release what no longer belongs to me.”
“I now move toward freedom, peace, expansion, and new possibilities.”

Watch the airplane for a few quiet seconds. Breathe deeply.

And notice something.

Notice how, even just a little, you feel lighter.

Why This Works – The Science and Spirituality

I know some of you are wondering if this is “real” or if it is just symbolic. And my honest answer is: it is both.

Psychologically, the act of writing something down and physically releasing it (crossing it out, letting it go) is a well-known technique for emotional processing. It creates a sense of closure that our minds desperately need but rarely get.

Spiritually, Full Moon energy is at its peak on release. This is the time when the Moon’s pull is strongest – and just as the tides respond to the Moon, our emotional body does too. Working with this energy intentionally amplifies your intention.

And Sagittarius? Sagittarius adds the direction. The sky. The trust that life is meant to expand, not contract.

When you combine all three – the ritual, the Full Moon, and Sagittarius energy – you are not just going through motions. You are creating a deeply felt emotional shift.

And that shift is real.

One Last Thing I Want to Tell You

After you do this ritual, you might feel a quiet stillness. Or you might cry a little. Or you might simply feel… a bit more like yourself again.

All of those are beautiful responses. All of them mean the same thing: something moved.

And something that moves can finally go.

This Full Moon in Sagittarius is not asking you to be perfect. It is not asking you to have it all figured out. It is simply asking you to be willing. Willing to let go. Willing to move forward. & Willing to trust that the sky is wide enough for everything you are meant to become.

I believe that for you. Even on the days you cannot believe it for yourself.

“Stay free. Stay expansive. Stay you.” Dr. Neeti Kaushik
